In the 16th century, whale oil was used as a liquid fuel for lamps, to bring light into Europe. Only the Basques used it to hunt whales. Whale hunting become so important that when America was discovered they started traveling to Ternua, Canada, just for whale hunting. But in the winter of 1565, a ship sank in Red Bay, this ship was the San Juan. The ship was so well preserved that they could make a replica of it.
